The coronavirus situation in India is worsening as the country is now registering over 30,000 cases for the past few days. The daily record rise in cases has pushed India’s coronavirus tally above 11 lakh. Though fatality and recovery rate seems to be improving, the country’s rural areas are now under increased threat from the deadly virus. State governments have reimposed total and partial lockdowns yet again to control the rising number of cases in the several cities and containment zones. Globally, the coronavirus crisis has infected over 1.4 crore people and killed six lakh. US, Brazil and India continue to remain the countries worst affected by the pandemic. However, many countries around the globe are also witnessing a resurgence in cases. In such a scenario, experts said the only hope to effectively tackle the virus is a vaccine. On that note, critical early-stage human trial data on Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine will be published today, according to the Lancet medical journal.

Rajasthan reports over 400 Covid cases, 4 deaths today

Rajasthan has reported 401 coronavirus positive cases, four deaths and 136 recoveries till 10:30 am today. The total number of positive cases in the state has increased to 29,835 including 563 deaths. Over 21,000 people have recovered in the state after testing positive for the virus.

Covaxin: Human trials of India’s first Covid vaccine starts today at AIIMS

In another positive development, human trials of India’s first Covid vaccine, Covaxin, will begin today at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Delhi. Its ethics committee had on Saturday given a green signal to begin human trials. It is worth mentioning that Covaxin has been developed by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech in collaboration with ICMR and the National Institute of Virology.

India has recorded over 40,000 cases in 24 hours for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic began. The country registered its biggest single-day spike of 40,425 cases and 681 deaths in the past 24 hours, which indicates that cases are spreading rapidly in India. On the brighter side, the number of people who have recovered from the deadly infection has crossed 7 lakh. India currently has 3,90,459 active cases and 27,497 people have died after testing positive.
