Delhi Bakery Owner Dies By Suicide Amid Divorce Dispute, Family Says ‘Wife Mentally Tortured Him’

A bakery owner in Delhi allegedly died by suicide amid an ongoing dispute with his wife. Puneet Khurana was found hanging in his house in Model Town’s Kalyan Vihar area. His family said that Puneet Khurana was “upset with his wife”. The couple got married in 2016 and co-owned the For God’s Cake bakery as well as another eatery called Woodbox Cafe that closed a while ago.

The police said that his wife was the last person that Puneet Khurana spoke to and the conversation was about the bakery business. His family also claimed that the wife recorded the conversation and sent it to her relatives.

Police have seized Puneet Khurana’s phone, they said. Reports claimed that in the audio of the last conversation between the couple, they can be heard arguing about their bakery.

“You are calling me at 3 am, can’t you sleep? You disrespected me and my family,” Puneet Khurana’s wife said on the call as per India Today to which he replied, “All these things have no meaning right now… Tell me what you want now.”

The deceased’s sister said as per news agency ANI, “Manika Pahwa, her sister and parents mentally tortured and harassed him. There is a video recording of around 59 minutes, in which Puneet has mentioned details of harassment he faced. The woman had even hacked Puneet’s social media account..”

The case comes weeks after Bengaluru-based techie Atul Subhash died by suicide earlier last month. The software engineer left behind a 24-page suicide note in which he accused his wife and her relatives of harassment. Atul Subhash was found hanging in his Bengaluru apartment with a placard reading “Justice is due”.
