The Delhi government is set to hold a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday to discuss the draft Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0.
After the draft policy is approved by the Cabinet, the Transport department will release it on its website seeking suggestions from the stakeholders and public, said officials.
The BJP government is likely to set a target of ensuring that 95% of all vehicles registered in Delhi by 2027 are EVs, which will increase to 100% by 2030, they added.
The policy was first introduced by the previous AAP government in 2020 with an aim to curb vehicular pollution and increase the presence of EVs to 25% by 2024.
However, only 9.39% of total vehicles sold in Delhi were EVs till last year.
Officials said that under the new policy, subsidy will be given to people on purchasing e-cars costing up to Rs 20 lakh.
The government is also likely give a flat discount of Rs 30,000 to the first 100 women who purchase e-two wheelers to promote EVs among women, they added.
“The new policy will give several benefits in the form of subsidies to promote EVs in Delhi. There will be a push for registration of only e-two wheelers and e-autos in Delhi from next year,” said an official, adding that the government is also likely to a target for cab and taxis to shift to electric mode.
“Moreover, compensation or subsidy may also be offered on scrapping overage petrol, CNG and diesel vehicles and switching to electric.
