The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for Delhi, predicting heavy to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms in the city and surrounding regions, offering relief from recent humidity.
Heavy rainfall lashed Delhi-NCR areas on Wednesday morning, bringing much-needed relief from the humid weather.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for the national capital and its adjoining areas, indicating the possibility of more showers later in the day. A yellow alert means heavy rainfall between 6 cm and 11 cm.
The maximum and minimum temperatures will likely hover around 36 and 27 degrees Celsius.
The forecast shared by IMD in a post X (formerly Twitter) includes regions such as Delhi University, Civil Lines, Kashmiri Gate, Seelampur, Shahadra, Vivek Vihar, Patel Nagar, Red Fort, Preet Vihar, Budha Jayanti Park, and President House.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) of the national capital was recorded in the “good” category with a reading of 40, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
The weather body has also predicted heavy rainfall over parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra on July 24.
The northwestern state of Rajasthan is likely to experience hot, humid weather until tomorrow.
In northeastern India, “fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall” is predicted over the next five days, the IMD said in its weather bulletin.
A ‘yellow’ warning of heavy rains at isolated places has also been issued throughout Himachal Pradesh for the next four days till July 27.
Meanwhile, in Chandigarh and Punjab, the IMD has predicted “above normal” temperatures with high humidity in the next two days.
The weather bulletin predicted light to moderate rainfall in other parts of north and south Odisha over the next two days, with similar conditions expected on July 25 and 26.
The weather body has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the North Goa and South Goa districts from July 24 to 25.
