India women’s cricket team face a do-or-die situation in their last league game against New Zealand in the race for the semifinals after suffering a heavy defeat to Australia in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017.
Mithali Raj-led India are currently at the fourth spot at the ICC Women’s World Cup.
The ICC Women’s World Cup on Thursday witnessed some hectic activity. Three out of the four spots for the semifinal have been confirmed. England secured their place in the knockouts by thrashing New Zealand by 75 runs. South Africa secured their place in the last four by defeating Sri Lanka by eight wickets. However, India failed to seal their spot in the semi-final as they lost to Australia by eight wickets, which allowed the reigning and defending champions to seal their spot in the play-offs.
Heading into the last league game, England, South Africa and Australia will primarily play for position in the semifinal but India face a virtual quarterfinal against New Zealand. This is the situation that India are confronting in the race for the ICC Womens World Cup 2017.
