Mamata Banerjee hospitalised after ‘major injury’

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee was hospitalised on Thursday after she was injured in a fall in the vicinity of her home. She was admitted to the state-run SSKM hospital after receiving an injury to her forehead.

Pictures of Mamata Banerjee uploaded on the party’s social media page showed her in the hospital with a gash on her forehead.

“The Chief Minister reported to our hospital today at around 7.30 pm with a history of fall within the vicinity of her home due to some push from behind. She had a cerebral concussion and had a sharp cut over her forehead and nose which was bleeding profusely,” Dr Manimoy Banerjee, Director of SSKM Hospital, said in a statement.

She was later taken to her residence after she received stitches on her forehead. She was accompanied by nephew and TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee.

Last year, in June, Mamata Banerjee suffered a leg injury after her helicopter had to make an emergency landing at Sevoke airbase near Siliguri following inclement weather. She sustained ligament injuries to her left knee joint and her left hip joint.

Some month later, in September, she sustained another injury to her left leg while travelling in Spain. The West Bengal Chief Minister later announced that an infection had developed on her injured leg.

LEADERS WISH SWIFT RECOVERY

Soon after the Trinamool Congress shared pictures of Mamata Banerjee in the hospital with an injury on her forehead, political leaders wished her a speedy recovery.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on X saying, “I pray for a quick recovery and the best health for Mamata Didi.”

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor reacted to the pictures and said he was “shocked” to see them. He wished the West Bengal Chief Minister a “swift and complete recovery”.

The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, also wished Mamata Banerjee a speedy discovery.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also extended similar wishes to her and wrote on X, “Pray for ur speedy recovery Didi. God bless u (sic).”

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said he was “deeply concerned” and added, “My thoughts are with her during this difficult time, and I’m wishing her a speedy recovery.”

PDP chief and Former Chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti said she was “distressed” to see pictures of an injured Mamata Banerjee and added, “Prayers for her swift recovery.”
